This post is part of a series called Ecuador 2016
For my 50th birthday I decided I wanted a trip to somewhere I hadn’t been before, and somewhere I could have a group of friends. Ideally I wanted to rent an island, but it turns out that is really expensive. Next I started looking at beaches. Hawaii was an obvious choice being halfway between Australia and the US, but it was too expensive. I started looking at some beaches in Thailand and Vietnam, but I’d just visited Vietnam in 2014 and it was too expensive to get to from the US. Then I saw an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about the Pacific Coast of Ecuador. After a little searching I found what appeared to be the perfect house for a big group of us near Montanita and I started making plans.
